The bedroom at IORI TONOMACHI is gently wrapped in Sanchu Washi, a traditional handmade paper crafted deep in the mountains of Hida.
This washi is incredibly delicate—so much so that even the slightest bump can cause it to tear. And yet, we choose to continue using it in our accommodation design.
Why?
Because preserving the tradition of Sanchu Washi is important to us.
Even when the paper is damaged, we repair it by hand and lovingly maintain its presence, believing that its subtle texture and warmth are worth the effort.
Each patch, each fiber tells a story—not just of beauty, but of care, heritage, and craftsmanship.
We invite you to fully immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Hida.
