IORI HONMACHI was not simply to recreate the traditions and aesthetics. Instead, we have brought a contemporary sensibility to them, revealing their beauty in a new way.

One expression of this philosophy is the karakami that graces the bedroom. Traditionally used to decorate sliding doors and folding screens, karakami is a form of Japanese decorative paper crafted using techniques passed down through generations. Here, this traditional craftsmanship is reimagined as art for a contemporary space. As the light shifts and the viewing angle changes, its expression subtly changes, bringing a quiet elegance to the bedroom.

From the bedroom, a gentle glow appears, reminiscent of a large firefly. Created using traditional techniques, passed down by a longe stablished Gifu lantern maker, the light brings together generations of craftsmanship with contemporary design, leaving a soft and lingering sense of calm.

After warming the body in the sauna, step into a stillness reminiscent of a Japanese tea room. Surrounded by the fragrance of Japanese cypress and the soft glow of light filtering through washi paper, sink into the open-air bath and feel your mind and body slowly unwind from the rhythms of everyday life.

In the living room, a Japanese-style low table with recessed legroom known as a horigotatsu, offers an intimate experience of Japanese living. Beside it, the gentle flames of the fireplace flicker, bringing Japanese tradition and contemporary comfort come together in harmony.
